MINERALOGY: In the United States, most of them are in the form eroded Navajo sandstone formed in the state of Utah. They have a smooth texture, are elliptical or round ball of compacted sandstone, are enclosed in the shell of a hematite (an iron ore), groundwater containing iron flowed through the sandstone. These rocks were formed during the Jurassic Period and today can be found on cliffs and peaks.

MYTHOLOGY: The indigenous peoples of the area from the ancient Anasazi current Zuni Navajo Hopi think that these minerals in the remote past came from space. They attributed magical powers of healing and soothing nature and type of balancing the energies of the body. The Hopi tribes have collected Moqui Marbles to honor their family.
