ETYMOLOGYThe "agate" name comes from the river Achates (Dirillo currently located south of Sicily, Italy), where Plinio found the first agates.

MINERALOGY: The blue agate is a submanifold of quartz, presented in concentric bands that alter the white and blue colors. It is formed in cavities of volcanic rocks in which hot solutions rich in silica (SiO2) are filtered. Variations in the impurities of the solution and the conditions under which minerals are deposited give rise to different layers. If cooling of the solution is slow, they can produce quartz macrocrystals the central area, while if it is fast, the crystals are microscopic.
