Granite

ETYMOLOGY: It comes from the Italian granito = granulated.

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: None.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Primary.

CLASS MINERAL: Gabbro.

HARDNESS: on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: Argentina, Brazil, Spain, China, India, Italy, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Ukraine and the USA.

MINERALOGY: Rock and equigranular granular formed by mineral crystals, appreciable in view predominantly light colored, may have microstructures as zoning crystals, other crystal inclusions, lamellar textures intergrowth of parallel orientation (Pertitas) and graphical structures, they provide the information about the process of crystallization. The bumps may be formed by partial melting of continental crust (granitisation). Granite is an igneous rock basically, of a type that is formed when lava or magma of volcanoes cools and hardens. It consists of coarse grains of metamorphic and igneous rocks and minerals, the color is determined by granite rocks and minerals that make it up. Colors include red, brown, beige, black and gray tones.

MAJOR MINERALS: Quartz, potassium feldspar, which can be orthoclase or microcline, plagioclase and mica (biotite and / or muscovite) may be a lesser amount, cordierite, andalusite, sillimanite, garnet, tourmaline, hornblende, and pyroxene riebeckite as enstatite or egirina.

ACCESORY MINERALS: apatite, zircon, and other opaque as oxides and sulfides.

SECONDARY MINERALS: chlorite, sericite, epidote and oxides.

MYTHOLOGY: Granite is an igneous rock formed during the last 300 million years, it is the hardest stone that humans use to build granites, granodiorite and tonalite can be grouped as "granitoid" as they have composition and look similar, but to differentiate them to do a microscopic examination or chemical analysis, the grains are richer in alkali feldspar, silica, aluminum, sodium and potassium granodiorites and these are the tonalite.

PROPERTIES: It is said that the granite helps draw strength and energy from the experiences, the origin and roots of tradition, strengthens move ideas, gives shape and strength to come true, granite is a useful stone to encourage diplomacy and tact, and for balance in a relationship.

USES: Used as a building material and as ornamental stone, granite gravel applies to dampen sound as railways. For coating surfaces and for making artificial aggregates, meditation, collection.
